Ride bicycles to improve air quality, public told

Members of the public who want to do their bit to improve the local air quality have been advised to ride their bicycles more often.

An article in EcoFriendNews.com has suggested that spending more time on cycles instead of in cars is a great way to go green.

It quoted a report from the Environmental Protection Agency which revealed that in the US, transportation accounts for 33 per cent of CO2 emissions.

The findings also revealed that more than half of these pollutants are produced as a result of cars.

"Bicycling is a zero emissions way to get from place to place," the news provider stated, adding: "As a cyclist, you will definitely appreciate clean air."

The article also noted that by cycling, people can reduce their contribution to global warming by 20 per cent every year.

This could be the reason behind local authorities implementing new transport agendas to improve air monitoring results, such as Bedford Council which recently announced its Stations Travel Plan.

It stated that this will help increase the number of residents using public transport in the area.
