New FTIR System for the National Physical Laboratory

Protea Ltd (UK) is proud to announce that it has recent delivered one of its mobile MCERTS Approved Protir 204 FTIR Analyser Systems to the National Physical Laboratory (NPL).

The instrument will be deployed by NPL’s Environmental Monitoring Group to undertake Compliance and Regularity Monitoring work including QAL2 measurements. The work will be performed in line with the Environment Agency’s M22 Technical Guidance Note on Measuring Stack Gas Emissions using FTIR Instruments.

Richard Camm, Protea’s Managing Director, says that we delighted that NPL chose the MCERTS Approved Protir 204 mobile FTIR analyser for this application. We know from years of development and experience that this instrument with its high resolution spectrometer and sophisticated PAS chememetric spectral analysis software is ideally suited for these measurements.

Richard also considers that one of the inherent strengths of using the 204M for this category of work is the fixed operation, MCERTS "Combustion" mode software. The NPL instrument was supplied with this enabled, meaning the acquisition parameters and analytical methods are pre-loaded and fixed on their 204M FTIR analyser.

This powerful Combustion Suite Software not only provides a set of analysis methods for the common inorganic combustion gas species, including hydrogen fluoride and ammonia, that are required to be measured under the Waste Incineration Directive, but also a number of organic components are included as well. This means that the instrument is ready to be immediately used after initial training. Any number of further analytical methods can easily be constructed and added by the trained user at a later stage, making the 204M the ideal tool for new and expert FTIR users alike.
