Fenceline Monitoring of Benzene to < 0.05 ppb
Sep 20 2016
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently toughened air pollution standards to further control toxic air emissions emitted by petroleum refineries. The new rules now enact fenceline monitoring to better protect local communities from exposure to toxic air pollutants, such as benzene and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
The MOCON, Inc. - Baseline (USA) Series 9100 on-line GC delivers direct, continuous, real-time measurement of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX), 1,3-butadiene, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and other hazardous air pollutants released at industrial sites.
The Series 9100 GC provides fast, reliable, accurate detection using one of two MOCON – Baseline’s available pid detector options. The first, standard photoionisation detector (PID) with a minimum detectable quantity (MDQ) for benzene of < 1 ppb without preconcentration. The second, a high-sensitivity photoionisation detector (HS-PID) with an MDQ for benzene of < 0.05 ppb without preconcentration. The elimination of preconcentration reduces analysis time, cost, complexity, maintenance, and efficiency issues.
Key features of the GC include an interference-free response, automatic calibration for continuous, unattended operation, remote access and control, automatic baseline adjustment and scaling for long-term stability, user-definable concentration and diagnostic alarm relay options, graphic display of current or historical concentrations, user-selectable analogue outputs, multi-point sampling, and USB, RS-232, and LAN outputs.
With over forty years in the industry, MOCON, Inc. – Baseline sets the standard in the development and manufacture of gas chromatographs, hydrocarbon analysers, OEM sensors, and portable detection instruments.
Effective October 1, 2015, Baseline Inc., a MOCON, Inc. company, merged with its parent company and is now doing business as MOCON, Inc. MOCON Inc. is a leading provider of detectors, instruments, systems and consulting services to research laboratories, production facilities, and quality control and safety departments in the medical, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, packaging, environmental, oil and gas and other industries worldwide.
