Flow Meters for Challenging Locations

Aug 15 2013

OTT Hydromet (Germany) is going to expand its portfolio. Based on close cooperation with the US manufacturer Hach, OTT is now able to offer measuring instruments which provide flow measurement also in locations that are commonly considered to be challenging.

Since the OTT current meter had been created, OTT Hydromet has gained reputation as a reliable and competent partner in precise flow measurement for hydrological applications. Now, the cooperation with Hach makes it possible to offer measuring instruments that have proved in hydrological borderline areas. Small runoff ditches featuring low water level, low velocity inflows or even shooting water – a solution for even such challenges is now available from OTT. Moreover, the new units are ideally suited to be used for gravity pipelines and, depending on type, may be used for both measurements in smaller diameter pipes such as water passages under roads, culverts, or drainage pipes and in the municipal sewage network.

OTT provides three sensors from the Hach product range: Flo-Dar (radar), Flo-Tote (magneto-inductive), and Sub AV/AV9000 (Doppler ultrasonic). The instruments are fitted with proven Marsh-McBirney or American Sigma sensors. Each unit uses another measuring method since each point of use is unique and individual solutions are required. All units may easily be connected to the FL900 flow logger – which is particularly beneficial for use in portable applications.

Whether the feeding flow rate is needed for a sewage treatment plant or for sewage billing purposes, whether it is required to perform monitoring tasks in small runoff ditches or to size channels or pipes – the new products are suitable for a variety of applications.
