Desalination Technology is up for Nomination in The Longitude Prize 2014

The Longitude Prize 2014 is a challenge with a £10 million prize fund to help solve one of the greatest issues of our time. Today (20th May 2014), the six catagories up for nomination have been revealed, and Desalination, the process by which saltwater can be turned into safe freshwater, has been chosen as one of the six categories nominated for the prize. The Horizon programme will cover each of the categories and will be aired on BBC2 this Thursday 22nd May at 9pm BST.

As part of the Horizon program, Professor Iain Stewart visits Modern Water’s (UK) first Forward Osmosis pilot plant in Gibraltar to look at how Forward Osmosis can alleviate the growing pressure on the plant’s fresh water by creating a cheap, environmentally sustainable desalination technology.

The Horizon programme can be viewed live on BBC2 or available shortly afterwards on BBC iPlayer. For more information about the program follow this link http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b044mkxt
