Water/Wastewater
A Novel Biomonitor Using the Microbial Fuel Cell
Jul 14 2008
It is an ideal system for various waste samples including municipal wastewater, industrial wastewater and most water systems that require toxicity detection and monitoring of water. The patented and uniquely designed sensor ensures measuring of toxicity degree with high durability, stability and accuracy.
When electrochemically-active bacteria oxidise organic matter, they produce electrons. These electrons are transferred to electrodes and produce an electrical current. However, whenwastewater containing toxic chemicals is introduced, it reduces the activity of electrochemically-active bacteria and interferes with the normal electron transfer system of the device. This interference will dramatically change the electrical current value. This changed electrical current can be expressed as toxicity.
