New Total Organic Carbon Analyser Boosts Productivity for Municipalities

Sep 18 2014

GE (USA) today introduced its new Sievers* M5310 C Total Organic Carbon (TOC) Analyzer to measure TOC in a broad range of raw and drinking water samples. GE developed the new M5310 C Analyzer to enhance its customers’ productivity by producing TOC results in two minutes, twice as fast as its predecessor.

"We asked our municipal customers what they needed most from their TOC technology and instrumentation for analysing raw water and drinking water. With their input, we developed our new Sievers M5310 C TOC Analyzer, which will help municipal customers by making their operations more productive and cost-effective," said Yuvbir Singh, general manager, engineered systems—water and process technologies for GE Power & Water.

Designed to improve output, the M5310 C promotes simple operation and optimal data utilisation. Improving upon GE’s popular Sievers 5310 C TOC Analyzer series, the new analyser now offers customers useful features including dual-stream configuration and percent TOC removal, which support the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's disinfectants and disinfection byproducts rule compliance.

In explaining why these features are advantageous to drinking water treatment facilities, Michael Scaer, M5310 C head project engineer, analytical instruments—water and process technologies for GE Power & Water, said, “The M5310 C has percent TOC removal in online mode with optional dual-stream configuration. Drinking water plants now can put the influent—raw water that needs to be treated—and the effluent—finished water fit for human consumption—into the same instrument. The instrument then calculates how much TOC was removed during the plant's treatment process. Automating this measurement in an online capacity is new. Saving the user time and effort—a highly valued commodity for our customers—is what the M5310 C does best.”

GE offers the Sievers M5310 C TOC Analyzer in three models—portable, on-line and laboratory—to meet the various needs of the municipal water industry. The M5310 C TOC Analyzer is available worldwide and meets all relevant global regulatory requirements.
