Water source pumping 'is a cost-effective way to generate energy'

Water source pumping is a cost-effective way to generate power, according to British Eco Energy.

The comments come after it was revealed that a community programme near Tower Bridge in London is set to invest in a water source heat pump to provide heating to dockside buildings.

Commuting on the plans, Helena Wright, a renewable advisor at British Eco Energy, said: "Renewable energy is very cost effective in the long term. So once you have installed it, you can actually benefit from renewable energy for years to come."

She added that very often people do not realise how economical renewable energy can be and pointed out that the cost of fossil fuels is rising.

Ms Wright noted that the current economic situation presents the perfect opportunity for people to step up investment in renewable power.

According to a report published by Friends of the Earth last year, just two per cent of UK energy comes from renewable sources.
