Water quality team in Northumbria takes home silver prize

Dec 06 2010

A water quality team in Northumbria has been honoured by winning an award for its environmental efforts.

Northumbrian Water Scientific Services (NWSS) has been handed an 80-gram silver slab for making eco-improvements at its laboratories in Howden, North Tyneside, NeBusiness.co.uk reported.

Hach Lange presented the NWSS with the accolade, which was reclaimed from 300,000 wastewater micro test tubes, which are used to check pollution levels and the water quality of the nearby rivers and lakes.

It represents the company's efforts in meeting its recycling targets by reusing these vials, as part of NWSS's commitment to conducting environmental analysis to provide results on water sampling and soil testing, as well as air monitoring.

Environmental laboratory manager for Northumbrian Water Paul Burton told the news provider that by recycling the test tubes, the firm is able to help the atmosphere.

"This silver award is a shining reminder to us all of the importance we place on sustainable solutions, innovation and environmental management," he added.
