Water quality for Scottish residents has improved, report says

Feb 04 2011

A report has been released praising Scottish Water for its efforts towards improving water quality in the country.

The Water Industry Commission for Scotland (WICS) has revealed the company has boosted drinking water quality as a result of a £2 billion investment.

It stated that there is also a "better water environment" and a lower level of leakage - a drop of 36 per cent since it was measured five years ago.

Alan Sutherland, chief executive of WICS, said: "Scottish Water has not only delivered the challenging savings and performance improvements that we required but has managed to go further, by a significant margin."

He added that customers are "getting more for their money" as a result of this improved performance by the organisation.

Last week, Scottish Water welcomed findings in the Scottish government's Output Monitoring Group report, which recognised its achievements in transforming the water service in the country.
