Water quality event gets underway in Stockholm

Water quality will be at the top of the agenda as an important event in Stockholm takes place this week.

Staged every year by the Stockholm International Water Institute, World Water Week started on August 21st and will run until the 27th, as experts from across the industry meet to discuss the latest technology and methods that can help boost water provisions.

As part of the event, the World Water Assessment Programme - which is hosted and led by Unesco - will present the findings of a United Nations report into water usage.

The pitch is aimed at raising awareness about taking "responsible action" to maximise the potential of freshwater resources across the world.

Sweden has been at the centre of water quality issues recently, as the Medical Products Agency called on the EU to tighten environmental legislation in order to prevent pharmaceutical manufacturers from polluting waterways with their waste.

The organisation stated that India - which accounts for much of Europe's imported medicines - was one of the worst offenders.
