Proposals for changes to sewage treatment site revealed

Proposals for changes to take place to a sewage treatment site in London have been revealed.

The North London Waste Authority (NLWA) has teamed up with the London Borough of Barnet to announce a number of public exhibitions to showcase their plans for a former wastewater site at Pinkham Way.

Chair of the NLWA councillor Clyde Loakes said the plans, which are being established to reduce the amount of rubbish going to landfill in an attempt to meet UK/EU legislation, will enable waste management to be more "sustainable and cost-effective".

He stated: "[The proposals will] help us to achieve the 50 per cent recycling rate and diversion of the proportion of north London's waste that is sent to landfill."

The NLWA serves six other north London boroughs and aims to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill from all 1.7 million residents in these areas to 35 per cent of 1995 levels by 2020.

Ahead of the submission of the planning application for the waste facility site in late spring 2011, the public will be able to take a look at the proposals at three dates this month.
