New water monitoring laboratory to open in autumn

May 26 2010

A new laboratory that will be used to test contaminated water will open in autumn 2010, it was announced yesterday (May 25th).

The Intertek centre will be built in Bilbao, Spain to assist in the research of biofuel and petroleum industries by testing a variety of liquids and gases.

Intertek's division executive vice president for oil, chemical and agri and government services Jay Gutierrez said: "This expansion of our biofuel testing capabilities in Spain is part of Intertek's commitment to the Spanish and European energy industry."

The Intertek Bilbao Technology Cetnre (BTC) will test biofuels, ethanol, biomass and biogas fuels as well as monitor the contamination of water.

Its aim is to support European renewable energy ambitions to fit in with the Basque government's plan for science, technology and innovation.

Earlier this month, Intertek announced the acquisition of Norca Ingenieria de Calidad, an organisation which assesses the reliability of energy infrastructure in Spain.
