New technology installed at London wastewater site

New technology equipment has been implemented at a wastewater treatment site in east London in order to improve the cleaning process.

Thames Water has installed a Bollfilter automatic filtration system at the Beckton sewage treatment works in the capital, which it states will prevent wastewater nozzles from blocking.

The system compromises of two 6.19 automatic self-cleaning filters and pumps, which are fitted to the washwater inlet feed.

It has been said that the use of the new technology equipment will allow for efficient cleaning without requiring separate backflush pumps.

This will help provide an energy and space-efficient solution to the wastewater treatment process at the site, which serves more than 3.4 million, making it one of the largest plants in Europe.

Earlier this month, Thames Water announced its plans to replace six miles of Victorian water pipes as part of a £2.5 million scheme has got underway in Edmonton, Enfield.
