Anglian Water fixes wastewater treatment blockages

Nov 12 2010

Anglian Water has resolved the problems that were causing blockages at one of its wastewater treatment sites.

Basildon Sewage Treatment Works recently had trouble with its pumping system, which affected the flow of water for 150,000 people who rely on the service, the Engineer reported.

Anglian Water replaced an inefficient pump in order to prevent blockage problems from occurring again.

Speaking with the news provider, asset engineer Gary Wakley, based at Colchester Sewage Treatment Works, said: "After three months of operating almost entirely on the trial Flygt pump it was opened and inspected. There was no sign of wear at that point."

This prompted Anglian Water to install two more Flygt pumps at the site.

Residents in Wing and Morcott who have been interested in learning more about a new nearby wastewater treatment works were able to have a guided tour of Wing Water Treatment site earlier this month, following its opening in February 2010.
