UK Water Companies Celebrate Monitor’s 1st Birthday

Water companies from across the UK are helping ATi (UK) celebrate the 1st Birthday of the NephNet by ordering the 300th monitor for the Utility industry within the first year of manufacturing.

With 13 different water companies now using the groundbreaking, continuous battery powered turbidity monitors, feedback from customers has been excellent:

With companies using the NephNet for various applications, such as valve operations, re-zoning, filling tankers, network monitoring, flushing, step changes, leakage and even final effluent monitoring on waste water sites, it has morphed in design and specification over the past year following customer feedback.

Some final changes are currently being implemented to offer the complete package and plans to further shrink the design of the unit to allow for ‘boundary box’ applications are to be looked at in the New Year.

The NephNet was designed to demonstrate how accurate the turbidity sensor is at low levels, (due to the unique self-zero function), bringing it to the attention the various water companies who had not witnessed such quality of readings before. As a result, ATi has now established several ‘fixed’ turbidity framework agreements with more in the pipeline.

Northumbrian Water - “At Northumbrian Water we have implemented a programme to condition our water mains to reduce the risk of discolouration.  With the use of ATIs NephNet turbidity monitors, we are able to measure turbidity responses throughout the conditioning exercises, to ensure turbidity remains within our agreed standards”.

Bournemouth Water - “We were looking for a battery powered mobile device we could use to monitor our flushing programme to make sure we didn’t cause to much turbidity in the area of the flush.  We saw the Nephnet product and have found it to be a valuable tool in the flushing programme by controlling the volume of water we flush in one period.  We are also now using it before we move DMA areas around to make sure we have no Turbidity issues. Having a live update in the office also helps as we can control the flushers out on site without them having to keep run back to the source.”

The list of NephNet users now include: Bournemouth Water, Bristol Water, Dwr Cymru, Northumbrian Water, Scottish Water, Severn Trent Water, South East Water, South West Water, Sutton & East Surrey Water, United Utilities, Wessex Water, and Yorkshire Water. 

Since its release, ATi’s UK Sales Manager, Tristen Preger, and Technical Manager, Chris McTear, have also completed a mammoth NephNet training programme with Severn Trent Water and United Utilities, involving all area managers and their water techs.

UK Sales Manager, Tristen Preger, is thrilled with the success of the NephNet during its first year: “ATi would like to say a big thank you to the University of Sheffield and all water companies for their input into the final design of the NephNet. I know the UK water industry is as happy to use this equipment as much as we are of supplying it, so here’s to another great year!”
