Professional Development Training for Stack Emission Monitoring

The Source Testing Association (STA) is committed to promoting the professional development of those who practice stack-emission monitoring. To facilitate this, it provides training courses on a range of relevant topics. 

The STA is a non-profit making organisation and all courses are provided to STA members and to non-members. Further information can be found here.

Training for Stack Emission Monitoring generally takes place at the STA offices in the UK, however courses can also be delivered at your own premises as well as virtually by training video .Training courses have also been provided internationally in person and virtually in Hong Kong, Turkey, Portugal and Dubai. certificates of attendance are provided for all attendees.

Current courses include:

Risk Assessment - Industrial Emission Monitoring
Covers hazards and risk associated with stack-emission monitoring along with the relevant UK H&S legislation. It meets the mandatory training requirements which are specified under the Environment Agency MCERTS scheme.

Regulatory Monitoring Requirements for Process Operators
Provides an understanding of the Environment Agency’s MCERTS and Operator Monitoring Assessment (OMA) schemes. It helps to increase process operators’ awareness of their role in managing stack-emissions monitoring and so improve the quality of monitoring work and their OMA audit score.

On-Site Auditing
Provides a basic understanding of stack emission monitoring techniques in order to enable process operators, regulators and environmental consultants to audit stack-emission monitoring contractors.

EN 14181 - Quality Assurance of Automated Measuring Systems (CEMS)
Provides information on the application of the standard, EN 14181 and associated Environment Agency guidance. The Quality Assurance Levels (QAL1, 2 and 3) and the Annual Surveillance Test (AST) are covered, including practical examples of how to manipulate QAL2, QAL3 and AST data.

Medium Combustion Plant Directive
Provides an understanding of the MCPD and the Specified Generator Regulations. The course is relevant to plant operators as well as organisations that offer equipment inspection, maintenance and stack-emission monitoring services in the MCPD sector.

MCERTS Personnel Competency
The STA has been providing training for almost 20 years and it has made a significant contribution to improving the understanding of stack-emission measurement and raising the quality of monitoring work.
