Bio-agent Test – for Faster and Simpler Detection of Hazardous, Biological Substances
Apr 17 2008
identifies anthrax, Staphylococcal enterotoxin B (SEB), ricin, plague-bearing bacteria (Yersinia Pestis), and botulinum toxin. These substances are regarded as the most important members of the âDirty Dozenâ â the group of the twelve most dangerous biological agents.
The preliminary test is suitable for use in disaster control, as well as in the military, fire service, police and logistics companies. It can be used to analyse suspicious substances (such as white powder) if a terror attack is suspected. The Dräger Bio-Agent Test meets the requirements of NATO Standard Agreement 4571. In addition, various independent institutes have also confirmed its aptitude. No cross
sensitivity to other substances was determined during tests.
At the same time, the detection limits of the test are very low. The Dräger Bio-Agent Test is easy to use and can be operated while wearing heavy protective gloves.
Results are displayed after 10 to 15 minutes â in cases of higher concentration, this can be reduced to as little as 3 minutes. An additional readout unit is not required. Users can practice operating the test with a separately labelled training set, which includes test substances.
If stored at room temperature, the maintenance-free Dräger Bio-Agent Test has a two year shelf-life. It can be applied in ambient temperatures between 4°C and 49°C. In addition to the simultaneous test, tests for the individual agents will soon be available.
