Gas Detection
Cutting-edge sensor platform for high-quality NDIR and Non-dispersive NDUV dual beam gas analysis displayed at Sensor + Test
Jul 10 2023
Wi.Tec recently showcased their ground-breaking INFRA.sens® and ULTRA.sens® at Nuremberg’s Sensor + Test Exhibition. These advanced sensor platforms have been specifically developed to provide high-quality NDIR and NDUV gas analysis and set new standards for the industry. Wi.Tec's sensors garnered significant attention at the exhibition for their exceptional stability and remarkably low detection limit.
The INFRA.sens® was specifically designed to meet the demanding requirements of gas measurement technology. By incorporating high-performance light emitting diodes (IR-LED) and thermal micro radiators, Wi.Tec successfully attained unparalleled stability and an impressively low detection limit for this device. Operating within the spectral range of 2 μm to 12 μm, this cutting-edge sensor platform provides precise and reliable detection of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrous oxide, even down to the parts per million (ppm) range.
Among its wide range of applications, INFRA.sens® proves instrumental in the gas-insulated high and medium-voltage switchgear sector. Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6), a widely used insulating and quenching gas, offers excellent chemical inertness and a relative density of approximately five times that of air. SF6 demonstrates its remarkable capability to swiftly extinguish arcs resulting from high short-circuit currents, making it indispensable in the industry. Wi.Tec's INFRA.sens® SF6-AK2/P offers qualitative control and monitoring of SF6 by efficiently detecting concentrations up to 100% Vol % SF6. The density of the gas necessitates a specialised linearisation procedure incorporating pressure, zero-point temperature, and end-point temperature compensation.
Leak detection plays a vital role in managing SF6 due to its greenhouse potential. Wi.Tec's INFRA.sens® offers the ideal solution for precise measurement in the ppm range, alongside its zero and end-point temperature compensation and pressure compensation capabilities.
The ULTRA.sens® represents a breakthrough in NDUV gas measurement technology, as the first OEM gas measurement module to utilise miniaturised UV LEDs. These UV-LEDs provide superb stability and durability, enabling highly accurate gas analyses even at concentrations as low as parts per billion (ppb). Moreover, by employing two UV-LEDs, it becomes possible to simultaneously detect two different gases. This innovative approach also allows for the realisation of two measuring ranges, spanning from parts per million (ppm) to volume percent (Vol.-%).
Within the spectral range of 200 nm to 500 nm, the ULTRA.sens® sensor platform can reliably identify several substances, including nitrogen oxides (NO+NO2), aromatic hydrocarbons, hydrogen sulphide, ozone, sulphur dioxide, and chlorine. Importantly, this novel sensor platform is capable of achieving such detection without interference from water vapour thanks to its very low detection limit of less than 0.1 ppm.
