Gas detection
ATEX and IECEx approved, inline determination of oil content in refrigerants in real time without sampling
Feb 15 2022
Determining oil content in refrigerant circuits often can be problematic. Sampling is difficult because of the high pressure in the circuit and the refrigerant will evaporate the moment it is taken from the circuit. These problems are often compounded by the presence of flammable gases, for instance: propane (R290), which are commonly used refrigerants. In addition to these obstacles, there are often special requirements needed for individual measuring systems, especially in high-volume test stands, often in research and development centres, where a high level of protection is necessary.
SensoTech’s LiquiSonic® OCR monitors oil concentration directly in the refrigerant circuit in real time, without sampling, even in potentially explosive locations. Therefore, operators, who previously had to rely on other measuring methods because of the to the heightened risk of explosions, can use this measuring system with confidence. Both the measurement and pressure sensors are Ex-certified (ATEX, IECEx) and in accordance to international, industrial standards.
This device is maintenance-free and has provided highly accurate measurement data to satisfied customers for many years. The system attains a level of accuracy of ±0.1 wt%, which depends on the oils and refrigerants used. As soon as the LiquiSonic® OCR is deployed, it provides permanent real-time data – maintenance free.
SensoTech has measured a wide range of oil/refrigerant combinations for their customers in their in-house laboratory, such as mixtures with oils including ND11 and DAO 190 (CPS). SensoTech will analyse any other blends, whenever to need may arise, in their lab.
SensoTech’s LiquiSonic® OCR comes with a process adapter, is plug and play and ready for use immediately after having been installed. The controller reliably and accurately displays the concentration, prevailing pressure and temperature of the process liquid. It can also store extra product data sets (calculation models), which enable a rapid reaction to any changes in the refrigerants or oils. The measured values are easy to record and transfer for additional analysis.
