Air Products Selects Locus for Greenhouse Gas Verification Services

Jul 08 2010

Locus Technologies (USA) was recently awarded a greenhouse gases (GHG) verification contract by Air Products. Air Products serves customers in industrial, energy, technology and healthcare markets worldwide with a unique portfolio of atmospheric gases, process and specialty gases, performance materials and equipment and services.

Locus won this three year contract through a competitive bidding process. The contract covers Air Products facilities in California that are regulated by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Locus is accredited as a verification body through CARB and has Lead Verifiers certified in all reporting sectors, including refineries and cogeneration. As a part of the Air Products program, Locus Lead Verifiers will perform mandatory verification of CO2 emissions in selected Air Products’ California Plants.

“We are very pleased that Air Products, the world’s leading gases company, with atmospheric gas separation at its core, has selected Locus for GHG verification services. Air Products is at the forefront of technological innovation, delivering technologies and solutions that have contributed to cleaner air, energy efficiency improvements and safer products for their customers and the communities where we live and operate. Locus is proud to be helping them meet their reporting requirements,” said Dr. Neno Duplan, Locus’ President and CEO.

Air Products tracks and reports estimated calendar year direct (Scope 1) and indirect (Scope 2) emissions on an aggregated, global basis in accordance with the WRI/WBC SD GHG Protocol using Financial Control reporting boundaries. 2010 represents Air Products’ eighth consecutive year of reporting via the Carbon Disclosure Project. Air Products’ California plants report GHG in accordance with CARB’s standards. Other locations comply with additional regional programs, such as European Union Emission Trading System (EU ETS) for cogeneration sites in the Netherlands.

“We are honored to be selected by the company that is very focused on developing and implementing clean energy technologies with the potential to reduce GHG emissions across the energy supply chain. This award calibrates Locus’ high level of domain expertise, since the world’s leading gas company has selected us for the verification services to ensure that their GHG reporting is of the highest possible and defendable quality. We are happy to help them achieve that objective,” added Duplan.
