Latest MiniPID 2 sensor offers new long-life lamp for continuous operation
Ion Science, leading specialist in gas detection instrumentation for global occupational health and environmental monitoring applications, has introduced several ground-breaking enhancements to its recently launched MiniPID 2 sensor. The most significant development is a new long-life 10.6 eV lamp that offers an unrivalled 10,000 hours continuous operation.
The new lamp offers the dual benefit of a proven 60% increase in life span and improved stability for more accurate measurement during long-term continuous monitoring applications. Other advantages include simplified spares ordering and reduced need for servicing.
Ion Science has also incorporated an innovative self-diagnostic feature within the MiniPID 2 that indicates whether the lamp is failing to illuminate or the electrode stack is contaminated.
Ion Science’s MiniPID 2 offers a raft of benefits, including improved temperature stability, greater sensor-to-sensor consistency and more repeatable performance. It provides fast, accurate and humidity resistant detection of VOC (volatile organic compound) gases and is also interchangeable with the original MiniPID.
Amongst the additional advantages offered by Ion Science’s new MiniPID 2 sensor are lower running current, robust lamp illumination and more reliable operation at temperature extremes. It gives stability and reliability benefits that are not available from other PID designs, and has the same range and response time as delivered by the previous MiniPID sensor.
Duncan Johns, Managing Director at Ion Science comments: “At Ion Science, we are committed to manufacturing and designing products of the highest quality, making on-going improvements to ensure our customers benefit from the very best performance. The next generation MiniPID 2 sensor with its new design improves the efficiency, reliability and accuracy of our PID instruments ensuring they continue to be the best performing on the market.
Duncan continues: “This new lamp in particular really does set a new benchmark in PID sensor design. Like all Ion Science products, it was developed as a result of market feedback and our commitment to a programme of continuous improvement where we strive to deliver more technologically advanced PID sensors to our global customer base.”
The newly launched Ion Science MiniPID 2 sensor is being incorporated into the company’s wide range of market-leading PID instrumentation including:
Falco Fixed Continuous VOC Monitor
The innovative Falco range of fixed continuous VOC monitors ensure the on-going protection of workers operating in potentially hazardous industrial environments such as refineries, petrochemical plants and laboratories. Incorporating its groundbreaking ‘typhoon’ technology for added reliability, Falco is specially designed for condensing atmospheres and extreme weather conditions. It also boasts an externally located, IS sensor to facilitate quick and easy servicing without the need for a hot work permit, and can be serviced and calibrated in a hazardous environment without having to remove power.
Other potential Falco applications include monitoring the headspace of refinery wastewater streams for excessive hydrocarbon contamination and measuring the effluents of activated carbon systems used to treat contaminated water.
Titan Continuous Benzene Specific Monitor
Ion Science’s Titan is the world’s first continuous fixed benzene specific monitor designed for accurate and reliable detection of ambient benzene in petrochemical and refinery applications where traditional methods suffer cross interference – providing the ultimate real-time protection of workforce, environment and plant. Titan is highly sensitive and capable of detecting benzene levels down to 0.1 parts per million (ppm) and up to 20ppm.
The Titan continuously samples and analyses the environment to provide real-time feedback of ambient benzene levels. When a sample is taken, the benzene component is chemically filtered using a robust separation technology ensuring no false-positives or negatives are measured with potential cross-contaminating compounds in the atmosphere.
Tiger Handheld VOC Monitor
The Tiger handheld VOC monitor has been independently verified as the best performing PID when tested against competing instruments in humid and contaminated conditions. Providing a dynamic detection range of one parts per billion (ppb) to 20,000 ppm*, the Tiger offers the widest measurement capability of any other VOC instrument on the market. It allows safe replacement of batteries in hazardous environments and meets ATEX, IECEx, UL and CSA standards.
Ion Science’s TigerLT is a streamlined, low cost version of the well proven Tiger model. Ideal for conducting environmental surveys, the TigerLT offers a detection range of 0.1 - 5,000 ppm utilising a standard two-point calibration protocol. The robust TigerLT also offers an unrivalled industry response time of just two seconds and equally quick clear down.
