H2scan to Supply ABB with Advanced Sensor Technology for Hydrogen Measurement in Contaminant Gas Streams

H2scan Corporation, provider of the most accurate, tolerant and affordable process gas monitoring solutions for industrial markets, today announced the signing of a long term supply agreement with ABB, through PMU Quebec. The long term agreement calls for H2scan to supply ABB with advanced sensor technology for hydrogen measurement in refinery and contaminate gas streams. This new product, centered on H2scan’s HY-OPTIMA™ 2700 and 1700 series monitors, will be offered alongside ABB’s FT-NIR process analyzers, in order to offer complete real-time measurement solutions for process control and optimization.

Michael Nofal, Vice President of Sales & Business Development at H2scan, said: “It’s a powerful endorsement of our hydrogen specific sensing technology that ABB has chosen to partner with H2scan. Our sensors offer significant advantages over alternative technologies for hydrogen measurement in refinery process gas streams including real-time measurement with no requirement for carrier or reference gases, no cross-sensitivity with other gases and simple installation with low on-going maintenance. We are excited about working closely with ABB to make their refinery and process stream analytics capability more effective.”

Hydrogen is an extremely important, valuable and limited resource within a modern complex refinery. Profitable operation of a refinery is increasingly dependent on effective fuel upgrading and conversion activities, as well as effective control of final product fuel quality, by managing the removal of contaminants from intermediate process streams. Many of the process units involved in these actions make use of hydrogen as a key part of the process chemistry. In some cases (eg catalytic reformer) there is a net hydrogen gain, but in most cases these units are heavy hydrogen consumers.

Thomas Buijs, Product Manager at ABB explains: “Managing the hydrogen recycle stream quality and make-up hydrogen feed rates is essential and depends on reliable, accurate, fast and contaminant tolerant monitoring of hydrogen. In conjunction with our other analyzers, H2scan’s products and technology provide an effective, economical solution enabling us to pass the added performance and benefits to our customers.”
