Gas detection

Looking forward and looking back

The Gas Analysis and Sensing Group are pleased to announce their 5th Early Career Forum and 90th Meeting. Taking place at Crowcon Detection Instruments, Abingdon on Thursday 20th March 2025, it will offer newcomers to the field an opportunity to present short talks (of up to 15 minutes, including questions) or display posters in the areas of sensing, analysis and monitoring of gases, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and particles.

Presenters from academia, industry, government and all interested organisations are welcomed. The day will provide Early Career Researchers with a valuable opportunity to interact directly with their peers and other experienced colleagues in the field. It is also an excellent chance for attendees to hear about the latest cutting-edge research from those active in the area. We are still accepting submissions for the programme so please let us know if you would like to participate! Full details and application forms are available on the website via this link.

The 89th GASG meeting was an online event in December 2024 titled ‘Gas Sensing and Analysis For Human Health’. The event attracted a large audience who heard presentations from a wide array of internationally renowned experts.

In the morning session, Professor Nicola Carslaw (University of York), Daniel Francis (Cranfield University) and Professor Grant Ritchie (University of Oxford) covered a range of topics with health implications from indoor air pollution to computed cardiopulmonography. Following breakout discussions where attendees were able to discuss the issues raised with the speakers and other delegates, there were three further talks. Steven Campbell (Imperial College London), Matthew Turner (Loughborough University) and Ryan Guterman (FaradaIC Sensors, Berlin) discussed time resolved PM2.5 oxidative potential, standardisation of breathomics and miniaturised electrochemical gas sensor systems respectively.

The event once again demonstrated the range and quality of presenters at GASG meetings and the benefits for attendees, even when circumstances necessitate remote engagement. GASG Members can read a full report of the day and access speaker presentations and recordings by logging in here.
