Blue Sky Thinking – Green Actions

Friday 20th June saw the official opening of the new Alphasense facility at Skyline 120, Great Notley, UK. Purpose-built to address the rapidly expanding gas sensor market, the 1600m2 factory allows manufacture and test of current gas sensor products together with development of integrated electrochemical, pellistor and optical technologies under one roof.
During a tour of the new facility, guests were impressed by the Automatic Test and Validation (ATAV) system which includes computer-controlled access to 60 gas bottles, 1.5 km of micro-polished
316 stainless steel tubing. Today`s capacity for testing over 1500 sensors/hour is easily expandable.
Also included in the tour was the laboratory, housing long-term and
environmental test systems together with the multi-channel VOC generator for new developments. A visit to the building services control room demonstrated how the new factory maintains its green
credentials and tightly controls the working environment to ensure utmost quality and comfort at all times.
The tour ended with a look into the future. Within the existing building, "The Cavern" will allow Alphasense to double its manufacturing capacity for both the current range of sensors and
those that will be introduced using new technologies.
Commenting on the celebrations, CEO Andrea Gotley noted "We wanted to
share this day with the people who helped make it possible. We have invested heavily in new equipment and staff as this is, undoubtedly, the best way to ensure our customers continue to receive the quality
products they have come to expect from Alphasense. The increased capacity in our new factory allows us to offer much higher volumes without sacrificing quality or efficiency”.
Guests whole-heartedly agreed. While enjoying a buffet lunch, there was much lively conversation sparked by the factory tour. Many noted how Alphasense had succeeded in providing a service second-to-none and, with the outstanding new facility, had anticipated future requirements for many years to come.
