Dual H2S/CO2 analyser provides precise monitoring of gas processing at landfill, chemical and waste treatment sites

Rapid and reliable measurement of hydrogen sulphide (H2S) and carbon dioxide (CO2) is of huge importance in gas processing in landfill, biogas, and pipeline applications. KECO‘s new CS Hound Two-in-One Analyser provides an ideal solution for this task; this sophisticated instrument has been designed for quality control and process optimisation at chemical plants, gas processing facilities, and waste treatment operations. The CS Hound Dual Analyser measures H2S and CO2 concentrations efficiently and precisely in natural gas, biogas, and air using advanced microprocessor-based technology and state-of-the-art sensor technologies.

Raw biogas, consisting of CO2, H2S, and other gases, is generated during the decomposition of organic materials in landfills. While biogas holds potential as a sustainable feedstock, it must undergo purification to eliminate contaminant gases before its use in industrial applications or energy production.

The CS Hound Dual Analyser is a fusion of the KECO SulfurHound H2S Gas Analyser and the CarbonHound CO2 Gas Analyser; it offers a cost-effective and expedient solution for quantifying H2S and CO2 concentrations in natural gas, biogas, and air. By using microprocessor-based technology, this instrument enables continuous online analysis via a combination of Non-Dispersive Infrared (NDIR) sensor and electrochemical cell technologies.

First, the gas under analysis, containing H2S and CO2, is regulated to 10 psi and then controlled to a flow rate of approximately 1.5 Standard Cubic Feet per Hour (SCFH). The gas is then introduced into an electrochemical detection element and NDIR sensor, which delivers output proportional to the gas concentration. The advanced microprocessor and dedicated software interpret the 4-20mA DC output. A user-friendly touch-screen LCD display offers access to current and historical readings, real-time charts, alarm status, and failure indicators.

The CS Hound Dual Analyser can measure CO2 concentrations from 0 to 500 parts per million by volume (ppm/v) up to 100% by volume, while also offering H2S measurement capabilities ranging from 0 to 2000 ppm by volume. Concentration and diagnostic alarms are communicated through the Modbus interface and sensor feedback. The instrument has an operational temperature range of -10°C to 50°C has been developed for safe operation in Division 2 (Zone 2) hazardous environments. In addition, its low-maintenance design with minimal moving components eliminates the need for consumables such as paper tapes, solutions, or scrubber media for gas detection. The CS Hound's wetted parts and high-quality materials also ensure that it can operate effectively in process streams over a long period of time.

The KECO CS Hound Dual Analyser offers an excellent solution for monitoring H2S and CO2 concentrations in a variety of gas processing applications. Its precision technology, user-friendly interface, and robust design make it a dependable choice for maintaining product quality and optimising processes in chemical plants, gas processing facilities, and waste treatment operations.
