New Compressor Sample Gas Coolers – for High Flow Rates and Water Vapour Concentrations
Jul 19 2016
For continuous extractive gas analysis reliable sample gas coolers are essential to ensure that the sample gas is cooled down to a constant low temperature, e.g. 3°C. At this temperature the water vapour inside the sample gas condensates and can be removed before the gas stream reaches the analyser. This step is crucial to protect the highly sensitive gas analysers downstream from damage caused by condensate.
In addition, depending on the method of measurement and the measured gas components water vapour cross-sensitivities may occur. In this case the analyser takes the water vapour for the gas component that needs to be measured and falsifies the actual measured value. For this reason not only a low but also a constant water vapour dew point is important. With a varying dew point or water vapour content also the measured value would change.
Another important requirement for a sample gas cooler is that the measured values are not corrupted by the wash-out of water soluble gas components such as SO2 or NO2.
Ideally, the sample gas cooler comprises all the those requirements in the smallest possible outlines.
To meet these important requirements JCT Analysentechnik GmbH (Austria) has designed the compact and high-performance compressor sample gas cooler, with entirely new heat exchanger elements, which are also very easy to replace. These guarantee a reliable separation of water vapour combined with low wash-out rates. Depending on the application, customers may choose from different heat exchanger materials such as PVDF, Duran glass, stainless steel or corrosion-resistant coated aluminium.
The new compressor sample gas coolers of the series JCS-100 are available with one or two separate gas path. Even for challenging applications with high flow rates in combination with high water vapour concentrations, the coolers of the JCS-100 series may be used.
For safe operation all coolers are equipped with a digital temperature display and a temperature alarm contact. They can also be supplied with integrated condensate pumps for reliable condensate disposal. The integrated high current volt free status relay can be used for direct switching of an external sample gas pump. Thus the gas analyser is protected against damage due to condensate at all times.
