Ion Science highlights benefits of Titan and Falco gas detection monitors for the petrochemical industry
Oct 12 2016
Ion Science is reinforcing the benefits of its ‘Titan’ fixed continuous benzene specific monitor and ‘Falco’ series of fixed continuous VOC (volatile organic compound) monitors for the on-going protection of workers operating in potential hazardous environments such as refineries and petrochemical plants and laboratories.
Both Titan and Falco incorporate Ion Science’s market-leading MiniPID 2 (photoionisation detector) technology with advanced patented fence electrode system. The three-electrode format ensures increased resistance to humidity and contamination ensuring ultimate reliability and accuracy in the field, as well as reduced drift issues and extended run time.
Ion Science’s Falco fixed VOC monitor boasts fast response times and several innovative design features, including typhoon technology which prevents condensation forming on the sensor and eliminates the risk of the system short circuiting in extreme weather conditions.
An externally located, IS (intrinsically safe) sensor allows quick and easy servicing without the need for a hot work permit. The Falco is operated via an intuitive user interface with OLED display and five magnetically activated switches which are back lit to help confirm the correct button is being pressed. Brightly-coloured red, amber and pulsing (optional) green status indicators are clearly visible in sunlight.
The system utilises a diffusive sample technique resulting in less contamination issues than pumped systems. Pumped models are available for applications where a sample needs to be drawn to the unit.
The eight models in the Falco series offer detection ranges as low as 0 - 10ppm with ppb sensitivity and as high as 0 - 10,000ppm. The flame and explosion proof enclosure is certified to EX d IIC T4 II and the external sensor to EX ib IIC T4 Gb II.
Ion Science’s revolutionary Titan fixed continuous benzene specific monitor has been developed for the accurate detection of ambient benzene in petrochemical applications where traditional methods suffer cross interference. While other PIDs easily detect benzene, they also identify other less harmful VOC gases normally present at the same time.
As the world’s first truly selective wall-mounted benzene monitor, Titan is already proving to be a real game changer for the petrochemical industry and refinery applications in particular. Highly sensitive, it is capable of detecting benzene levels down to 0.1ppm and up to 20ppm.
The Titan features a clear display and provides an immediate warning alarm system when hazardous levels of benzene are detected. The instrument has two relays with configurable levels to integrate into site alarm systems. Flashing lights are used as an alarm signal to give a clear indication when benzene levels present.
Designed to operate in conditions ranging from -20ºC up to +60ºC, Titan is unaffected by changes in ambient temperature. It incorporates two temperature regulation systems to ensure critical components perform optimally. Easy to service, Titan provides removal of particulate contamination in the air stream to provide long-term service free sampling. It is designed to IP65 and meets ATEX / IECEx hazardous area safety approvals.
