New Immunoassay Column Detects Seven Mycotoxins in Single Run
Apr 08 2013
Waters Corporation (USA) recently announced that VICAM, a Waters Business, introduced the Myco6in1+ LC/MS/MS immunoaffinity (IA) column, the only IA column on the market to simultaneously screen for seven major mycotoxin families isolating at least 14 chemically-distinct mycotoxins, including aflatoxin, ochratoxin A, fumonisin, deoxynivalenol, zearalenone, T-2, HT-2, and nivalenol.
Created by VICAM, specialist provider of mycotoxin testing solutions, the Myco6in1+ column is a quantitative tool which combines the proven strengths of selective monoclonal antibodies and liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry. It is designed to deliver precise numerical results, with a recovery rate greater than 90%.
Marjorie Radlo-Zandi, General Manager, Director of Operations of VICAM said "VICAM's patented Myco6n1+ technology provides both ease of use and superior recovery. This provides analytic labs with an effective tool in order to test for multiple mycotoxins even with the most complex of commodity matrices. Our patented new multi-analyte column provides superior measurable results, while also giving sample throughput and overall efficiency a major boost."
The Myco6in1+ column requires only one sample and a single pass through the column, minimising time and materials costs while improving laboratory productivity. Independent labs can now use it as a routine analysis tool because it is fast and simple with excellent recoveries.
Mycotoxins are naturally occurring chemical byproducts of ubiquitous mold species which are natural inhabitants of crop soils. Severe rain or drought can encourage mycotoxin production and, once released, mycotoxins are difficult to manage and virtually impossible to destroy. The USDA, FDA, EU, and other international government agencies impose specific regulations and guidelines for acceptable levels of mycotoxins. Producers and exporters use on site and laboratory testing to ensure regulatory compliance and to protect human and animal health.
