Compressed air: your low hanging fruit. Start saving energy with VPVision monitoring system
Mar 11 2020
VPVision makes energy management easy, understandable and rewarding. Compressed air is typically one of the most significant utilities within a production plant. Research shows that it accounts for 10 – 30% of the electricity bill. However, it is often still considered as "free" and the savings potential is enormous with compressed air reduction up to 50%.
A few reasons why to start monitoring your energy consumption permanently.
- 1. Keep a permanent eye on your system: maintain the savings.
- An energy audit will render a one-time-only reduction of energy costs. After a certain period, your costs will increase due to changes in demand profile and neglected maintenance. A 24/7 monitoring system will keep a constant eye on consumption. Bonus: it makes people aware as well.
- 2. Allocate costs
- Do you know how much energy it takes to manufacture your product? Most manufacturers used to look only at cost of labour and material. In many industries, energy costs can become a significant part of the product costs and should be allocated accordingly.
- 3. Detect issues immediately
- In VPVision alarms can be configured and an e-mail message will be sent to you when things go out of bounds.
- 4. Maintenance management & optimisation
- Prevent too high maintenance costs or prevent equipment failure. By measuring permanently, you can maintenance just in time.
- 5. Benchmark machines & production sites
- VPVision data can be used to benchmark your production equipment (new against used, brand A against brand B). You can also benchmark different production sites. How much kW/product produced is required? And why does site A perform better than site B?

Compressed air savings potential
More than 75% of the total costs of ownership of a compressor is taken up by energy costs. The other 25% are for buying the compressor and maintenance. Furthermore, studies have shown that only 50% of compressed air is used for production, the other 50% involves leakages, artificial demand and inappropriate use. Compressed air is a necessity but use it wisely. Read here our blog about compressed air savings potential.
VPVision
VPVision is the complete monitoring solution for compressed air, technical gases and energy management. Get a grip on your usage and see the patterns of compressed air between your supply and demand side. VPVision makes energy savings easy, quick and rewarding. Using the latest web technology, it enables you to view data anywhere at any time. VPVision analyses flow data and makes your savings potential transparent.
With the automated report function there is hardly any need to look at the system itself. You have all important information in your email on a regular base, like consumption overviews, Key Performance Indicators, compressor analysis and alarms.
