Temperature controller boosts GC speed for vital oil industry measurement
Jul 13 2020
The oil exploration sector heavily relies on mud logging data, which, until now, has been performed by time consuming isothermal GC methods. VICI have now managed to reduce this lengthy process to less than 30 seconds and enhance accuracy with their highly innovative multi-zone temperature controller. Operators can now effectively control the components’ temperatures using an arsenal of wire, TC, and RTD sensing techniques. The heating element is packed adjacent to the column to enable uniform heating, whilst simultaneously operating as the sensing element. This allows the analysis of C1-5 gas mixtures to be carried out in 12 seconds or less, cooling within 18 seconds for a run time of half a minute or less. This ingenious device not only enables a more rapid analysis, but also smaller column size, enhanced sensitivity and lower power usage.
