It is well-recognized that engineered or manufactured nanomaterials (ENM/MNM) can exhibit unique physical, chemical, and biological characteristics, which are not exhibited by the bulk materials with the same composition. This is particularly true of metal-containing nanomaterials used for a variety of applications. Although many are incorporated into the product matrix, a number are used in applications where they are either intentionally released or somehow find their way into the environment.
