Comprehensive Environmental Mass Spectrometry
Jun 13 2012
Mass spectrometry is the most sensitive, rapid and informative analytical tool available. In full colour throughout, this book describes the power of this technique in resolving environmental issues, demonstrating how real-world complex problems can be solved in a simple and elegant way. Have a look at this publication at #ACHEMA 2012.
The book begins with the general principles of mass spectrometry, then proceeds to describe a range of techniques including imaging, ambient mass spectrometry, miniaturisation and isotope ratio mass spectrometry. A variety of applications are covered, including different types of environmental pollutants, such as emerging contaminants, pesticides, volatile organic pollutants, persistent halogenated compounds, drinking water disinfection by-products and atmospheric aerosols, as well as the new disciplines of petroleomics and huminomics.
Aimed at both novice and experienced mass spectrometrists, each chapter is in the form of an easy-to-read tutorial and contains case studies with examples of real environmental problems and solutions. Essential reading for environmental scientists, this book is also relevant to those in other disciplines such as biologists, geologists, forensic scientists and petrochemists.
Albert T. Lebedev is a Professor in the Chemistry Department and Head of the Laboratory of Organic Analysis at the Moscow State M.V. Lomonosov University, Russia. He received his PhD in 1982 (DSc in 1992) in organic chemistry from the same university. With experience in directing undergraduate and graduate research, he has taught extensively in the field of organic chemistry and physicochemical methods in organic and environmental analysis.
Professor Lebedev actively employs mass spectrometry in environmental applications, proteomics and gas-phase reactions in his research and teaching activities. He is the President of the Russian Society for Mass Spectrometry.
