Gemini Data Loggers sponsors Low Energy Buildings Database
May 22 2022
Monitoring equipment manufacturer Gemini Data Loggers is a proud sponsor of a project to rebuild the AECB’s Low Energy Buildings Database into an international platform for sustainable building knowledge.
The Low Energy Buildings Database is the leading publicly accessible database on sustainable buildings and building practices in the UK. Gemini Data Loggers, manufacturer of the Tinytag range of data loggers, is sponsoring a project by AECB (Association for Environment Conscious Building) to upgrade the platform into an international repository for low energy buildings.
“As a UK manufacturer, we are delighted to be involved in a project that will promote better, more sustainable building design in the UK and beyond,” says Ana Carmona Rodríguez, Marketing Director for Gemini Data Loggers.“Reliable monitoring of temperature, humidity and energy consumption is key to understanding building performance; from testing the efficiency of building materials and appliances, to pre- and post-occupancy evaluation of living conditions, data is what enables architects and designers to choose the most efficient designs and materials for creating comfortable, low-energy buildings.”
Currently, the LEBD showcases 455 UK building projects that incorporate low energy innovation into their design, including private and social housing, schools and offices. The database is unique in detailing the whole construction process for buildings and retrofits, making it an invaluable resource for those looking to replicate sustainable building practices.
The funding, provided by Gemini Data Loggers and MCS Charitable Foundation, will be used to replace obsolete technology and grow the LEBD into a resource for homeowners, builders, construction companies and local authorities to share and gain knowledge on how to build for a low carbon future. The new database will include standardised data entry, improvements to sharing and access, enhanced feedback for projects and will encourage the publication of monitoring results.
Andy Simmonds, CEO of AECB, says, “The MCS Charitable Foundation funding and support from Gemini Data Logger as a Founding Sponsor will allow AECB to create a collaborative, international buildings platform for organisations in the UK, Ireland, Europe, North America, Canada and New Zealand to promote better designed and built, high performance, zero-carbon building.”
As we navigate the climate emergency, the revamped Low Energy Buildings Database will be an essential tool for enabling more individuals and organisations to tackle the transition to zero-carbon building. Monitoring the effects of low-energy solutions using simple monitoring equipment such as data loggers, and sharing the results to the new LEBD, will be key to ensuring the most effective sustainable building techniques can be deployed for an efficient transition to a zero-carbon future.
Gemini Data Loggers designs and manufactures a range of building monitoring equipment, including temperature and relative humidity data loggers for assessing occupant comfort, carbon dioxide data loggers for monitoring indoor air quality and data loggers for monitoring energy usage and efficiency. Tinytag data loggers have been used to evaluate a range of building projects, including certified Passive House buildings and retrofits of historic buildings.
“We are excited as a sponsor of this project to be bringing our easy-to-use, reliable Tinytag data loggers to the fore of innovative, sustainable building practice,” says Ana Carmona Rodríguez. “Sharing monitoring data around the world using the new Low Energy Buildings Database will be essential for an effective international transition to low-energy building.”
