Prosonic Flow B 200 - take the compromise out of your biogas flow measurement

Jan 30 2012

Precise measurement of biogas quantity gives a direct evaluation the efficiency of a biogas production plant and an indication of the effectiveness of the fermentation process. However, to date no available flowmeter systems have been able to reliably measure the quantity of biogas in all conditions, such as free water. This gap has now been filled by Endress+Hauser’s Prosonic Flow B 200 ultrasonic flowmeter, developed specifically for this application. For the first time, it is possible to precisely measure the volume of biogas, landfill gas and fermentation gas, as well as the methane content directly in the pipe!

Unbeatable ultrasonic flow measurement

Ultrasonic flow measurement offers biogas plant operators many advantages compared to traditional measurement methods. Thanks to modern, innovative sensor technology, wet and dirty gases can now be measured with high accuracy, even under greatly fluctuating process conditions. The measurement is independent of the gas composition and is possible at very low gas pressures - a benefit that no other flowmeter has achieved to date.

The Prosonic Flow B 200 is an industry-optimized flowmeter which exhibits high measuring accuracy (±1.5%) and a wide operable flow range (30:1). It causes no pressure loss and requires no maintenance once installed. The Prosonic Flow B 200 is available in diameters between DN 50 (2") and DN 200 (8") and can be used at gas temperatures of up to +80°C and gas pressures up to 10 bar. As an intrinsically safe two-wire measuring device (Ex ia), the Prosonic Flow B 200 is especially suited for use in hazardous areas. Menu-guided local operation allows the user to optimally configure measuring points according to his or her requirements.

Methane content measurement directly in the pipe

Fermentation processes are not always uniform. The operating conditions will fluctuate leading to different methane content in the biogas. Ideally, this should be constantly monitored. Prosonic Flow B 200 makes it possible to measure the methane content of a gas as the flow measurement is made, thanks to an ultra-precise sound velocity measurement and integrated temperature sensor. This unique feature allows a targeted reaction to disruptions in the fermentation process at any time, since gas quantity as well as gas quality can be monitored around the clock. As a multivariable flowmeter, Prosonic Flow B 200 can also calculate additional characteristic values upon request, including corrected volume, heating output or Wobbe index, giving a performance indicator for fuel gas quality.
