Spinosyn A (CAS# 131929-60-7) Standard Carried for First Time
Aug 21 2014
Spinosyn A (CAS# 131929-60-7), the popular highly selective, broad spectrum pesticide, is now available at Chem Service, Inc. (USA). The company that features 95 percent of standards grade materials with purity of 98 percent or better, has Spinosyn A for researchers, agricultural chemists or anyone else looking for quality testing chemicals.
Spinosyn A is a member of the spinosyn family of pesticides, which features a polyketide-derived tetracyclic macrolide core structure and holds a number of agricultural benefits against insects that are damaging to important crops. Spinosyn A is commonly paired with spinosyn D, where it is the major component and D is the minor. This combination, spinosad, has been registered for use on corn, root vegetables, leafy greens, fruits and other crops.
It helps combat some of the toughest crop pests including corn earworms, the Colorado potato beetle, cabbage looper, hornworms, the European corn borer and thrips. Spinosad is unique to many other pesticides because it allows beneficial creatures, such as predatory mites, wasps and spiders, to survive and negatively impact the insect population in another way. It also is not damaging to bees when dry, although it may present issues to bees when first applied.
Spinosad is sold as products such as SpinTor, which is sold by Dow AgroSciences. It is an effective and inexpensive pesticide option that kills pests with a two-pronged attack of stomach and nerve poison when used for a period of time. It is only used a few times a year. Spinosyn A is also sold as Success, Naturalyte and Tracer Naturalyte.
Standards testing of spinosyn A can be important when working with the chemical compound. It is written as C41H65NO10 and is moderately toxic to zooplankton and fish. It is not a carcinogen and can be a useful tool for farmers who want to reduce the amount of yield lost to pests.
