WRG secures Saltend permit
Jun 25 2009
Simon Firth, environment manager at the agency, said the application had been considered very carefully and officials are satisfied that the incinerator will not cause any significant pollution.
Over 50 responses from the public were received during the consultation stages, as well as comments from professional bodies such as the Health Protection Agency and Primary Care Trust.
"When the facility is up and running we will monitor its environment performance, including
emissions to air, to ensure that the permit conditions are not breached," he added.
In other waste news, the Environment Agency recently introduced an electronic tracking system, enabling businesses to monitor the collection and transfer of their waste.
The initiative has been designed to clamp down on fly-tipping and to ensure that waste is recycled where possible and disposed of legally.
