European Parliament votes on environmental legislation for low-carbon vans
Feb 17 2011
Earlier this week, it was decided that European countries would adopt goals for 175g/km CO2 for light commercial vehicles (LCVs), while long-term targets would involve having LCVs that produce 147g/km of CO2.
It is hoped that this will help the nations reduce their carbon emission levels.
Paul Everitt, chief executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, said the industry is "pleased" with the news.
He stated: "Vehicle manufacturers are committed to lowering emissions as part of ongoing introductions of low, lower and ultra-low carbon vehicles."
Mr Everitt also noted that the UK is "well placed to capitalise on low-carbon technologies".
This comes after research from TheGreenCarWebsite.co.uk revealed that the government's Plug-in Car Grants that were introduced at the start of the year are motivating buyers to purchase electric vehicles, which will improve the country's air quality in the long run.
