Crop yields 'boosted by soil erosion preventative measures'
Apr 27 2009
This is the opinion of C P Mansoor, a scientist from the University of Agricultural Sciences in Dharwad, who also said that by introducing more conservation schemes, soil quality can be preserved and erosion prevented.
The Times of India quotes him as saying: "Good soil conversation leads to enriched lands, better crop yields, good financial returns and a balanced environment."
Mr Mansoor was speaking in India at an RTE Society's seminar entitled Soil conservation and water management, the news provider reports.
According to a study conducted by North Wyke Research, atmospheric changes brought about by climate change may have a negative impact upon soil quality in the future, particularly by diminishing the presence of phosphorous.
