Big business 'should lead the way' on the environment

Sep 04 2008

Larger firms have been advised to lead the way on environmental issues, it has been claimed.

Ideal Home Magazine claims that while there exists some cynicism among individuals regarding the adoption of environmentally-friendly practices by celebrities, people as a whole are more eco-aware than five years ago.

Isobel McKenzie-Price, editorial director of Ideal Home Magazine, said: "What we need to see is big businesses, not celebrities, leading the way by rethinking technologies to solve environmental issues - not leaving it to individuals to tackle on their own."

She added that it remains to be seen whether or not individuals will give up their everyday comforts in order to help protect the environment.

The Daily Telegraph recently claimed there has not been a single prosecution for a lack of compliance with environmental legislation with regards to environmental building regulations, despite numerous examples of such breaches.

It added that some local authorities are refusing to grant planning permission to build environmentally-friendly homes.
