Royal sponsorship for World Soil Museum
May 27 2019
Royal Eijkelkamp will be sponsoring the World Soil Museum in Wageningen for the next three years. Fons Eijkelkamp and Stephan Mantel signed the sponsorship agreement at the museum on Friday 12 April 2019.
The World Soil Museum exhibits a wide range of soil types from all over the world. The museum is part of the International Soil Reference and Information Centre (ISRIC) and is located on the campus of Wageningen University and Research. Since the foundation of the museum in 1960, more than 1,000 soil monoliths – specially-prepared undisturbed soil profiles – have been collected from dozens of countries around the world.
Fons Eijkelkamp explains: ‘As Royal Eijkelkamp, we regularly visit the museum with national and international delegations due to our shared focus on the soil. One particularly special aspect of the museum is that it also devotes attention to the history of soil mapping in the Netherlands. For example, there is a beautiful old Edelman auger – a soil core sampler – along with a fantastic picture of my father, Jan Eijkelkamp, making an auger in the forge. We are therefore proud to be able to contribute to the continuity of this unique museum through this support.’
