Student wins scholarship for air quality research

The David Benforado Memorial Scholarship from the Air and Waste Management Association (AWMA) has been awarded to Tingting Gao due to her achievements in the areas of pollution control and waste minimisation.
Students looking to pursue a career in the areas of air quality management, pollution control, waste management and environmental law are usually recipients of the grant, the University website reports.
Jean Andino, associate professor at the university and advisor to Ms Gao stated: "The AWMA's scholarships are highly competitive and very prestigious. I am so pleased that Tingting has been recognised for her research work as well as her academic success."
Other academic institutions which have received related funding of late are the Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University.
They were awarded $499,512 (£347,000) by the US Environmental Protection Agency to assist their research into air quality.
