Air Monitoring
Measuring the Total CO2 Emission in the Stack
Mar 24 2014
A new accurate method for determining the CO2-emission has been developed by Indmeas (Finland), and taken into use in a Finnish coal power plant. The emission is measured by using a continuous CO2-concentration measurement in the stack and a stack gas flow measurement. The good traceable accuracy is reached by accredited on-site calibrations of these components.
The calibration uncertainty of the total CO2-emission was 1,8 %, well under the uncertainty limit of 2,5% set by the EU regulations for the yearly emission.
By measuring the CO2-emissions directly from the stack the plant can avoid costly sampling and analysis of the raw material. The method is applicable to all coal power plants using natural gas or fuel oil as their secondary fuel.
