Syngas Analysis
Apr 13 2010
Syngas (synthetic gas) is a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide usually formed by gasification and used as a fuel or intermediate in production of ammonia or ethanol. The gasification process can use a wide variety of organic waste as substrate. Therefore these projects are high on the agenda of many waste-to-energy companies.
Hitech Instruments, the UK gas analyser specialists, are experts in hydrogen analysis using katharometers (thermal conductivity sensors). The K1550R hydrogen analyser is available to measure hydrogen in a background of nitrogen and carbon monoxide as a standard product. However, with syngas usually containing a significant percentage of carbon dioxide a compensation input can be provided for this. The IR600 carbon dioxide analyser from Hitech can provide this input. Thus Hitech provide a solution for all the gases of interest in this application.
The K1550 hydrogen analysers are available in different configurations providing solutions for hazardous area applications. The simplest solution is to mount the remote sensor in the hazardous and connect to the electronics unit via an MTL barrier. Alternatively the electronics can be mounted in an Ex enclosure for full hazardous area use. Hitech Instruments is part of the MTL Instruments Group, a world leader in intrinsic safety and a part of Cooper Crouse-Hinds.
A bypass flow sample system is also available for fast response when the sensor needs to be remote from the process. Hitech manufacture a number of sample systems both as standard items and bespoke products for specific applications.
