Ultrapure Gridded Filters for Accurate Asbestos Count

Aug 10 2016

Environmental Express Inc, are proud to offer gridded MCE filter membranes to the environmental testing market worldwide for a variety of sample collection and analysis needs, especially airborne asbestos fibre monitoring,  which is legislated by European Directive 2009/148/EC - Exposure to asbestos at work, UK Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations (CAWR) and a number of other country specific guidelines and regulations.

Asbestos in Use
Once widely used as a flame retardant and insulation material for much of the 20th century, asbestos a naturally occurring mineral, found its way into building materials, flooring, industrial gaskets, personal protective equipment, and other products.

A large number of scientific studies have linked asbestos exposure with health concerns, and after peak worldwide production in the late 1970s, regulations began limiting, and in many cases banning, the use of asbestos.

According to the World Health Organisation, currently about 125 million people in the world are exposed to asbestos at the workplace. Approximately half of the deaths from occupational cancer are estimated to be caused by asbestos. In addition, it is estimated that several thousand deaths annually can be attributed to exposure to asbestos in the home.

All forms of asbestos are carcinogenic to humans. Exposure to asbestos, including chrysotile, causes cancer of the lung, larynx, and ovaries, and also mesothelioma (a cancer of the pleural and peritoneal linings). Asbestos exposure is also responsible for other diseases such as asbestosis (fibrosis of the lungs), and plaques, thickening and effusion in the pleura.

Today, many buildings erected more than 20 years ago still contain asbestos and require regular air monitoring to maintain proper living and working conditions.

Indelibly printed, easy to use and exceptionally clean
The Environmental Express filters are printed with a green grid to enable easy counting of asbestos fibres and are compatible with any air sampling equipment using a 25mm filter.  All filters are manufactured to standards of high purity that prevent contamination during the manufacturing process and thus ensure accurate, precise sample collection. These filters meet the guidelines for asbestos testing/sample collection outlined in EU directive 86/477/EEC and UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Guideline HSG248. Samples can be provided for evaluation and validation
