Peugeot welcomes targets to improve air quality

Car manufacturer Peugeot has expressed its approval of recent European environmental legislation for new carbon dioxide targets for light commercial vehicles (LCVs), which will help boost air quality.

Last week, the European Parliament voted for short-term goals of 175g/km CO2 for LCVs by 2014, with the view that long-term targets would reduce this to 147g/km.

Peugeot UK has welcomed the plans, as its fleet of LCVs already meets the initial goal.

It also revealed that some of its smaller vans emit less CO2 emissions than the longer-term target specifies.

The car manufacturer will also introduce a Stop and Start Partner van in April 2011 in order to do more to boost air quality in the country, as this technology will help the vehicle to reduce emissions to 129g/km.

This is likely to fall under Peugeot's plans to increase its environmentally-friendly offerings this year, which also include the upcoming launch of the world's first diesel hybrid, the 3008 Hybrid4.
