Paris air quality worse than London's, report shows

May 09 2011

Data from AirNow, CITEAIR and the American Embassy in Beijing has been released in the Independent, showing results from air monitoring tests for last Friday (May 6th 2011) and today (May 9th).

It revealed that while the English capital had 'good' levels of air quality on the two days, Paris recorded a 'moderate' scoring for Friday.

The data showed that pollution has decreased over the weekend as Paris achieved a higher result in today's findings.

Another European city that was found to have a 'moderate' rating for Friday was Brussels, which also managed to reduce its pollutant levels for the beginning of this week.

While this data shows that London has better air quality than Paris, the British capital could still face fines of £175 million if it does not reduce the amount of pollutants in the city before the 2012 Olympic Games.

The International Olympic Committee said current pollution levels are unacceptable and more needs to be done to make sure the event is held in a green city.
