Launch of EV Sales Centre to improve air quality

Feb 03 2011

The launch of Mitsubishi's EV Sales Centre is set to improve the air quality in the UK as it encourages more people to drive electric vehicles.

Mitsubishi's zero-emission iMiEV cars were handed over to its London-based customers at the unveiling of the site in Putney.

The vehicle is the manufacturer's new green car, emitting only 30 per cent of the CO2 of a petrol-powered minicar when taking into account the emissions produced at the power plants when charging the vehicle.

Managing director of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK Lance Bradley said this centre will help put "London at the forefront of our electric vehicle sales operation", which could see the air quality of the capital improve if more people drive low-emission cars.

He added: "Our strategy sees every area of the country being covered by Mitsubishi EV Sales Centres."

These areas include cities such as Manchester, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Belfast among others.

The launch was welcomed by Mayor of London Boris Johnson, who said the growing popularity of electric vehicles is "great news" as it will help to reduce pollution levels and boost the country's air quality.
