Hybrid vehicles 'will grow in popularity and improve air quality'

More people are going to own hybrid cars in the near future, it has been said, which will improve the air quality of the country.

According to Dr Ben Lane, a spokesperson from nextgreencar.com, within the next five years, there will be more electric and hybrid vehicles on Britain's roads.

He suggested that a greater number of cars will be made which are mixes between green and conventional vehicles, instead of everyone just driving the pure electric style of automobile.

The green car expert commented: "There will be a nice feed in from pure electric vehicles down the line to making hybrids a little bit cheaper and conventional vehicles a bit cleaner."

He noted that more vehicles already have 'stop-start' functions, which is the "first step towards being a hybrid".

Dr Lane's comments come after KPMG reported that 90 per cent of auto executives said they will regard investment in hybrid and electric vehicle technologies as a priority until 2016.
