Charging points installed to help boost air quality in London
Feb 17 2011
Earlier this week, the government revealed that 1,300 new electric vehicle charging points are starting to be set up around the city.
The Source London network of charging facilities will be located at different areas around the city in centres such as supermarkets and car parks.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson said this will help Londoners overcome the hurdle of not having enough charging points to encourage the purchase of low-carbon vehicles.
"By giving increasing numbers of drivers the confidence in electric vehicle technology we will make a considerable contribution to improving our air quality and cutting carbon emissions," he stated.
Despite his concerns, a survey released last month by Glass's showed that the popularity of green vehicles is already growing, with more potential buyers in December 2010 than there were the previous July.
It is hoped that by the end of 2013, there will be at least 1,300 charging stations set up around the city to give a boost to the growing low-carbon technology sector.
